We’re gonna be on national television

It was only a short while ago we closed the deal with SVT, and can now happily announce that The Weapon will be screened on national public service television. It also turns out that entirely independent, low-budget productions such as ours (i.e. without prior financing from SVT) seldom get sold in this manner, so of course we are very proud! No screening dates are set yet, but we’ll let you know as soon as we know ourselves.

Young video art at Kulturkiosken

The Weapon will be screened in a programme of young film/video artists at Kulturkiosken in Gävle, actually the same place where we held our world premiere screening. The event is presented by one of our major benefactors IDKA and the other works shown are:

In celebration of International Animation Day

A few years ago the international film association ASIFA declared October 28th as the International Animation Day. This means that on that day every year, people around the world are encouraged to celebrate the art of animation by arranging screenings or other activities.

This year the International Animation Day is honoured in Sweden by a series of cinema screenings of a special animation programme assembled by Eksjö Animation Festival and the Forum for International Animation. We are happy to announce that The Weapon has been selected as one of the five films screened in this programme! Other films being shown are:

Dreams from the Woods (orig. Drömmar från skogen) by Johannes Nyholm
Slaves (orig. Slavar) by David Aronowitsch and Hanna Heilborn
Checkoo by Erik Rosenlund
The Gang of Lidingö (orig. Lidingöligan) by Maja Lindström

The Weapon was broadcast five times a day this week, on local television station Södertälje LokalTV. Why so often? No idea really, but we are of course very thankful.

No more vacation and lots of good news

After about a month of low activity due to vacation times, we are now back on track with spreading The Weapon throughout the world. There are some very good news upcoming, some of which we are not at liberty to speak of yet. However, we can tell you that we did an interview for the Indian animation magazine Animation Reporter with a circulation of 10,000 copies. The latest issue with the article on us is on its way to Sweden and luckily we are allowed to put the article online when it arrives; stay tuned.

It also turns out The Weapon will be screened as part of the New Swedish Animation programme (out of competition) at the Eksjö Animation Festival. We do not yet know the details of the screening, but as soon as more information emerges we’ll post it here.

Another very special screening will take place on September 11th at the Culture Night in Kvarnbyn, Mölndal. This year’s theme is “The Astronomy Year 2009” (what’s that?) with lots of interesting activities going on; how about astronomy lectures with space photography projected on whole buildings? The Weapon will be screened as part of a space themed film programme, along with a couple of excellent films by some of the masters of animation and trick cinematography… more on this as soon as the final programme is released.

If you happen to live near Växjö, we are also screened at Öppna Kanalen Växjö tonight at 22:45 (10:45 PM) and also this Sunday at 08:30 (8:30 AM).

In other words, lots of exciting things happening in the near future!

Portello River Film Festival

We are very proud to have been selected for the Portello River Film Festival in Padova, Italy, where The Weapon will be screened in the animation section on July 18th, along with films by Swedish animation veterans such as Johan Hagelbäck. We hope to post more information on this as soon as possible.

A Film For Peace Festival

We are happy to announce that The Weapon has been selected for the competing section of the Un Film Per La Pace festival in Medea, Italy. Only two films from Sweden were selected, so we feel quite honored to participate. We will keep you posted as soon as we have more information.

Releasefest!

Vi kan knappt själva tro att det är sant, men efter alla dessa år har faktiskt dagen kommit då vi stolt kan presentera filmen Vapnet – en berättelse om tidens gång. Ni är ett antal människor som på olika sätt hjälpt oss att förverkliga denna film, och ett ännu större antal som visat stort intresse. Nu är ni alla välkomna på den definitiva releasefesten lördagen den 23 maj, se flyer för mer information:

Gothenburg screening

Comic fans are gathering in Gothenburg during next week (23rd-28th of March), for the annual comic con Serieveckan. Sandra will be there talking about The Weapon, and the film will also be screened. If you are visiting, be sure not to miss this screening!

No one can be told what The Weapon is

We’ve decided to start this blog as an official channel of information on The Weapon – A Tale of Passing Time, our animated short film that has been in production since the autumn of 2006. It would be an impossible task to sum up the various stages of production, most importantly the film is completely finished now and we are planning the release and various screenings. Hopefully we’ll publish a more throughout documentation of the whole process; from screenplay and sketches, through character design, set design, recording and animation, to post production, sound and special effects.

(I am tinkering a bit with this blog for a few days, don’t mind bits and pieces out of place, everything will settle in the end.)

Why is this blog in English?

A good question, since the film is in Swedish and we are a Swedish production company. Well, there has been quite some interest in The Weapon from abroad, especially in the international stop motion animation community. Instead of having to do unevitable translations later on, and having to answer questions in two languages, it is easier to just do the whole thing in English from the start.

What is happening at the moment?

We finished post production early in March this year, which means that the whole film (after almost three years!) is finally complete. Our first official screening will be on the 19th of March in Gävle, Sweden, at the X9 Anime & Shortfilm monthly festival. This is quite an important event, since most of the film was made in Sandviken near Gävle. We got more support than we could hope for from Film Gävleborg, IDKA and other members of the local Gävleborg film community. This means we are finally showing the film to those who have followed us and supported us from the start.

The screening starts at 19:30 on the 19th of March, at Kulturkiosken, Nygatan 41, Gävle.

Be there if you live nearby, we will be there too, introducing the film and probably answering questions afterwards.

And then?

Some kind of release party (including a screening) in Stockholm is planned for early April, although no date is set yet. Keep an eye on this blog for more info on this. More screenings will follow. We are currently designing and manufacturing a DVD that will be available for sale here and in other places. You will also be able to download The Weapon in high quality with subtitles in several languages. We’ve also got some press coverage, it will be available at this blog as soon as the material has been digitalized.
